Second Harvest Food Bank Thankful to Receive Nonprofit Funding

Walmart Foundation Logo.pngSecond Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina, an Action Pathways Program, is pleased to announce that it recently received a total of $42,625.31 in funding from Walmart thanks in part to Feeding America. The total amount came from two separate Walmart grants:

Fight Hunger Spark Change-Walmart Social Media -- $11,250.00
Walmart Foundation-Fight Hunger Spark Change 2017 -- $31,375.31

The funding from Walmart will be used to continue Second Harvest Food Bank’s (SHFB) mission of assisting folks in its seven-county service area, especially those in rural counties. SHFB’s service area includes Bladen, Cumberland, Duplin, Harnett, Hoke, Robeson and Sampson counties in North Carolina.

Funding from Walmart will also be used to promote the Food Bank’s “Second Saturday” event, which is a free produce market hosted every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The event is held at the SHFB, which is located at 406 Deep Creek Road in Fayetteville.

CCF Logo.pngFunding from Walmart and other grants, such as those from the Cumberland Community Foundation (CCF), are essential to the work of Second Harvest Food Bank. For example, this year, CCF awarded second Harvest Food Bank funding from two endowments:

The Cornelia “Neill” Bullock Wilkins Charitable Endowment Fund - $13,500
The Elizabeth A. Hudspeth Endowment Fund - $10,000

Both CCF endowments have helped the Food Bank with its continued work of servicing members in our community with a Mobile Food Pantry along with helping fund “Second Saturday,” which was previously mentioned above.

shfb_logo_0.pngSecond Harvest Food Bank wants to thank all of its funders, but especially Walmart and the Cumberland Community Foundation, for the Food Bank’s most recent grants. Without the generosity of these organizations, much of the work of the Food Bank would not be possible.
